Back From Some R+R

This long weekend I relaxed with girlfriends in Palm Springs. After making a stop at the outlets on our way down from Los Angeles we arrived at the fabulous Colony Palms Hotel. The weekend consisted of laying by the pool, adult beverages, trashy magazines and LOTS and LOTS of sun. I have to say it was the perfect amount of rest and relaxation to revive me for the work week ahead.  Hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day!

Shourouk at La Boutique

Last week, Marc and I stopped by the Shourouk jewelry presentation and blogger mixer at La Boutique. We had the opportunity to meet  the fabulous jewelry designer Shourouk and view all of the beautiful pieces in her collection. La Boutique featured gorgeous displays of the handmade jewelry and even recreated Shourouk's atelier in Paris. Headpieces and necklaces inspired by Frida Kahlo, India and comics were sprinkled about the gallery.

I had actually never been to La Boutique before, and if you are a fan of Parisian designers I definitely recommend checking it out. Not only are they the ONLY boutique in SF to carry Shourouk's amazing handiwork, they also carry tough to find brands like Cacharel and Vanessa Bruno (two of my favorites).

After some browsing and snacking on themed treats, Marc and I made our way upstairs to the  "super hero" themed photo booth. We may have gotten a little carried away. Thankfully Elisabeth was kind enough to indulge my photo booth obsession. It was a fabulous evening. Thanks so much to Shourouk, Ruby Press and La Boutique for hosting us!

Travel Lite. Travel Right.

This summer is shaping up to be one of the busiest I have had in a long time. Whatever happened to the summers of our childhood where you had months of free time and your biggest obligation was going to camp? Alas, it looks like those carefree days are over, and mixed in with all of the fun that summer brings is a job, obligations, and lots of other stuff. Luckily for Marc and I all of our "to-do's" this summer are fun, but with our impending move, vacations, graduations and weddings I have a feeling I will be living out of my suitcase more often than not.

I have never been a very good packer. I once forgot to bring pants on a weekend trip to Los Angeles and ended up having to buy a new pair when we arrived. Marc thought this was an evil ploy of mine to get him to go shopping, it was actually just plain stupidity on my part. I normally just throw everything and anything into my suitcase, paying no attention to what type of outfits I may be creating and panicking at the last minute when  I realize I have forgotten an essential, say like pants. With all of our travel plans I have decided I MUST avoid this problem and reform.  Here are the new rules I am VOWING to live by when I travel this summer...

1. Make sure I have a light-weight carry-on suitcase
2. Plan out my outfits before I pack my bag
3. Bring travels size versions of my cosmetics
4. Bring accessories to mix things up
5. Pack items which can transition from day to night
6. Do not bring more than 5 pairs of shoes
7. DO NOT overpack, when I am done laying out all of my clothes remove 2 items for safe measure

Short Thing

As the warm weather rolls in I have been on the search for the perfect pair of shorts. I have always been a fan of the more tailored look when it comes to shorts, and this year there is a plethora of choices. Below are a few of my top picks. I have a feeling that shorts will become a staple in my wardrobe this summer.

1. Yellow Canvas Shorts, Theory
2. Floral Drawstring Shorts, Marc by Marc Jacobs
3. Pink Scallop Hem Suede Shorts, Topshop
4. Coral Cutwork Shorts, Topshop
5. Khaki Belted Shorts, Miss Selfridge
6. Belted Cotton Shorts, 3.1 Phillip Lim
7. Floral Shorts, Topshop
8. White Lace Trim Shorts, Topshop
9. Green Twill Shorts, J. Crew

Double Take

Recently I have found myself drawn to menswear inspired clothing with a feminine twist. Loafers, button downs, slouchy trousers and the occasional vest. My favorite item of late has been these leopard loafers, they remind me of Hugh Hefner and make me long for a smoking jacket :) I have a sneaky suspicion that part of Marc's wardrobe will start to find its way into my closet when we move. I already jacked these sunglasses from him this weekend.

Color of Friendship

When the weather is nice in San Francisco you can find me at Dolores laying on blankets and eating Bi-Rite ice cream. A few weeks ago Marc and I spent a lovely Saturday with friends, leisurely brunching in the mission, shopping on Valencia and then lounging in the park. I got my first sun burn of the season (I know, who gets sun burns in San Francisco??) and also got to wear my new friendship bracelets. While I have been lusting over some lovely ones at Barney's, I decided paying $200 for a bit of string and fake jewels which a 12 year-old could have made at summer camp was a bit much and opted for the replacements I found at American Eagle. Who would have thought?

Sweet Dreams

With our move around the corner, I have been obsessing over how we will decorate our new apartment. While Marc and I have generally different, taste I am hoping it will come together and be an amazing combination which is uniquely our own. The first room on my list is the bedroom. Having never lived with a boy, I am NOT used to having gender neutral color palettes or even patterns. I'm hoping we can meet somewhere in the middle... clean lines and patterns with bright accent colors. I have promised to stay away from the following: florals, paisley, more than 5 throw pillows and anything that looks like it could be called pink.

As you can see I obviously have a mild obsession with Jonathan Adler style bedrooms. Let's hope Marc approves.

If you could redo your room what would you do?

Warm Breeze

It has been abnormally warm in San Francisco recently and I have been desperately hoping it would last through the weekend. Last weekend, all the warm weather gave me the chance to wear so many of my summer staples, breezy pants, espadrilles and easy button-downs. While this weekend's weather forecast is not particularly favorable, I plan on filling my weekend with lots of fun events from scuba lessons to checking out the Kasil Denim event at Azalea in Hayes Valley to spending a lovely Mother's day with my fabulous mom.

Hope your weekend is as wonderful as mine is shaping up to be.

In The Stacks

Last Thursday, before heading out to the Refinery 29 shop crawl and launch party, Marc and I decided to pop into one of our local bookstores to escape the crazy wind. Bibliohead, a used/new bookstore in Hayes Valley was the perfect setting for our impromptu photo shoot -- lots of colors and props to play with. What more could a girl ask for?
