Weekend Bites

Mmm.... Brunch is one of my favorite activities and crepes have to be one of the best brunch foods EVER. This Saturday, Marc and I ventured to the Mission and had a delicious meal at Ti Couz. Lots of yummy crepes and salads later, we decided to walk around and shopped for home decor accessories. That night we had a delicious late dinner with friends at Uva Enoteca. There is nothing better than a weekend full of delicious food and friends.

Wrapped in Denim and Wine

A few weeks ago I ordered this wine colored maxi skirt from Nasty Gal. After having a very hard time trying to find anything to wear with it, I decided to hang it up in my closet until I could get some inspiration.

That inspiration came in the form of an amazing denim jacket. After months of drooling over a leather sleeved Helmut Lang denim coat on Net-a-Porter I decided I needed to find a replacement obsession in my price range. During my search I was lucky to come across the same jacket on sale at Bloomingdales for HALF the cost. I of course decided this was fate and ordered it immediately. The jacket is just as fabulous as I imagined it to be, fitted, warm and so perfect with everything I have in my closet.

I love my new coat so much that I actually wore it around my office all day after it arrived in the mail. While this was not my best look, it definitely was better than staring at the coat longingly as it hung on my office door. Hope you all had a great weekend.

What's Your "It" Color?

Each season, new nail polish colors debut and everyone rushes to find the newest "it" color. Often the season's hot color sells out so fast that it becomes near impossible to find. Last year I searched far and wide for Nouvelle Vague before my quest became too painful.

This year with so many colors to choose from I believe my search will be relatively easy. My usual go-to of punchy orange or pink is taking a back seat to sheer beautiful pastels. Whether it be a smooth matte nude or a shimmery light blue all of these soft hues will look stunning against the bright colors which graced the spring 2011 runways. While I am a fan of color I have to admit I am beyond excited to try these pretty, feminine picks. Below are a few from my wish list. Any colors you are dying for?

Essie: Coat Azure, Sugar Daddy
Topshop: Summit, Scorch
OPI: Spark de Triomphe, In the Spot-Light Pink
Deborah Lippmann: Naked, Glitter in the Air
Chanel: Peche Nacree, Pearl Drop

Lazy Days

This weekend I took it easy and spent most of my time in Marin at my family's home. I watched old movies, napped on the couch and ate Chinese food out of the carton. All in all it was a perfectly lovely way to spend the very rainy days. Here are a few things currently making me smile...

Ballet tickets and my grandmother's opera glasses

New nail polish from Gilt
Good smelling candles

Cookbooks with delicious treats
New shorts and pants from Free People for our vacay in Tuscany in August (I know I plan early lol)
My grandmother's initial bracelet in my pink glass jewelery dish

Bouquets to Closets

Last night I spent the evening at the Bouquets to Art show at the de Young Museum. Florists from across the country come to showcase floral arrangements representative of different masterpieces which are part of the permanent collection at the museum. If you are in San Francisco, I highly recommend you check this annual exhibit out, it is truly like nothing you have ever seen.

While I was walking in and out of the exhibit, I got to thinking how a good floral is the perfect spring/summer wardrobe essential. A fabulous floral print can brighten your day. Florals are just so festive, flirty and fun that I can't seem to resist picking out a few new pieces to add to my wardrobe each year. After my inspiring evening among flowers, I went straight home to find the perfect floral dress for spring. After perusing the internet, I came up with quite a few I am considering about adding to my wardrobe this year. Have any floral items made it to your must have list for spring?

Spring Fling

This weekend we had a glimpse of spring. While it was a bit cool, the sun finally peaked out from behind all of that San Francisco fog and provided some heat for a few glorious hours. While I do love fall and winter, there is just something about spring that is extra special. It could be those extra couple of hours of daylight which make you feel as if your day has just begun when you leave work, or the flowers that begin to bloom, whatever it is everyone seems to take notice. Spring lead me on by showing up so unexpectedly on Saturday, and then disappearing with that first rain cloud on Sunday. But it was nice to know we would have our romance soon enough; full of al fresco dinners, nights without coats and sandals galore. I just cant wait.

Breakfast Done Right

Some may say, that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. While I definitely do not disagree with this statement, I do occasionally forget to make it a priority -- especially when I am running around like a mad woman trying to find my keys, while simultaneously tracking the bus on my phone so I am not late to work.

My hectic weekday morning routine almost never seems to include a nice hearty breakfast that I enjoy in my own apartment, it usually consists of a non-fat latte picked up on my way into work and instant oatmeal (yuck) eaten at my desk. Having the color beige be the constant of your morning snack is not what I would call a breakfast of champions.

Since I cant seem to bare the thought of waking up 10 minutes early to make myself eggs in the morning, I have come to the conclusion that I need a delicious, filling breakfast that takes no time and can be enjoyed on-the-go. Enter, granola -- my perfect solution. In order to avoid the commonly thought of granola (AKA the too sweet or flavorless sister of oatmeal) I decided to make some granola of my own. Following a recipe of Alton Brown's, with a few of my own substitutions and additions, I found the perfect weekday breakfast --homemade granola with yogurt and berries.

3 cups rolled oats
1 cup slivered almonds
1 cup cashews (I like to use chopped pecans instead)
3/4 cup shredded sweet coconut
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup raisins (I like to use white raisins)

*MSB additions:
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp cinnamon

Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.

In a large bowl, combine the oats, nuts, coconut, and brown sugar.

In a separate bowl, combine maple syrup, oil, and salt and 2 tsp vanilla and 1 tbsp of cinnamon (MSB addition). Combine both mixtures and pour onto 2 sheet pans. Cook for 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes to achieve an even color.

Remove from oven and transfer into a large bowl. Add raisins and mix until evenly distributed.

Rainbow Bright

Recently I have been thinking up outfits I can wear with my new Comptoir des Cotonniers electric blue pants and Loefller Randal Sloane leopard pumps. I think the only way to go is color blocking. Bright colors just scream fun and spring. Thoughts?

So Long For Now, Until We Meet Again

Before we left New York, we did make a stop in Brooklyn  Williamsburg was so wonderful, we went to a delicious place called Rye for brunch and visited a cute little cheese shop. While it was very, very cold, Marc still kept up his gig as my personal paparazzi, even when I didn't stop for the photos. It was sad saying goodbye to New york, but I know we will be together again soon.

Do you think I am sad to leave NYC... OR am I sad Marc made me take a pic with this dumb hat above my head?

So long for now...
